TRAI extends the deadline for submission of bank guarantee paper

For its draft proposal on the optimization of entrance fees and bank guarantees (BGs) for telecom services, the sector regulator has postponed the dates for stakeholder remarks and counter comments by September 6 and September 20, 2022.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) asked for opinions on whether entrance fees for telecom permissions could be reduced and whether operational and insurance contracts should be combined for all telecom permits in a draft proposal it released in late July.

A common entrance price for different service authorizations under a unified licence (UL) and a virtual network operator (VNO) licence may be required, according to the regulator, who also solicited opinions on the matter. Additionally, it requested opinions on a list of related financial and performance factors as well as the process for calculating a combined bank guarantee for various telecom permits.

Additionally, the authority sought opinions on whether or not a merged BG should apply to both new applicants and permit holders.

A significant suggestion to resuscitate the telecom business was made by the government back in September 2021, and it contained a drastically lowered need for BGs.
