TRAI clears the air on plans recharge cycles

The telecom regulator has cleared the air on recharge cycles or renewal dates of monthly prepaid tariff plans that telcowere recently mandated to offer, including plan vouchers, special tariff vouchers and combo vouchers.

It has indicated that such monthly tariff offers will now be renewable either on the same date of the following month, or the last date of the following month, if any specific date is not available.

Telcos have 60 days to comply with the modified TRAI order. Its earlier call to mandate operators to have at least one monthly tariff was a departure from its long-standing policy of forbearance on tariffs.

The regulator has also pointed out that that global mobile carrier such as UK’s Vodafone PLC and Verizon of US had monthly prepaid plans, regardless of how many days are there in a month.
