
The telecom industry is looking to hire workers from the startup industry for the majority of the 15,000 to 20,000 positions that need to be covered by the end of the current fiscal year. While 5G is being rolled out, two-thirds of this must be covered by December 2022.
Considering that the startup industry has experienced up to 23,000 layoffs since January 2020, there is a prepared pool of potential employees there. More startup workers are also searching for more permanent and secure employment with traditional businesses and MNCs as funding becomes scarcer, according to recruitment specialists.
They said that in addition to the huge layoffs, there has been a rise in spontaneous turnover in that industry, with an additional 40,000 startup staff reportedly looking for other employment.
In addition, telecoms have previously lost a significant number of people to startups, since there is a workforce that is familiar with how telcos operate and has developed leadership skills while working at startups.
According to staffing companies, the telecom industry’s recruiting surge will continue for the next two years.
Jobs in fields like augmented reality, virtual reality, the internet of things, cybersecurity, and related fields will be stimulated by 5G, and the in-demand job types are at the confluence of those needed by the startup workforce. The increase in employment chances will be driven by skill-based work opportunities.
By dividing the employment process based on experience levels, telecoms are addressing some of the issues. Telcos are therefore trying to recruit newbies who would come at a lesser package for many of the entry-level positions available on the field. They will try to hire from the startup personnel pool for mid-level and management positions.
In order to combat losses and recruitment issues jointly, telcos concentrate on upgrading in specialised technologies that will help foster stickiness and also prepare a staff for the future.
