5G services would be rapidly adopted in India, according to Opensignal

According to Opensignal, assuming 5G is commercially available, India could experience comparatively rapid adoption of 5G services relative to other regions.

Telecom providers might also win users rapidly by prioritising the deployment of next-generation services in cities/circles with a greater number of individuals owning a 5G-capable smartphone.

As telecoms companies race to reach the entire nation with 5G by 2023, India already has a huge potential market for 5G as almost 9.7% of smartphones currently in use are 5G-capable, which could influence an explosive adoption of 5G services as these consumers do not need to purchase a new mobile phone, the supplier of mobile data analysis said in a report.

According to Khatri, these 5G-capable smartphones currently enjoy 40.8% quicker download rates than non-5G devices.

To just be sure, even in the lack of commercially viable 5-G networks, 5G smartphone sales in India have been increasing.

According to Counterpoint Research, the 5G smartphone sales share reached an all-time high of 29% of total shipments in the second quarter of 2022, as India’s smartphone user population surpassed 600 million.

As per IDC, 11 million 5G devices were supplied in the second quarter, with an average selling price of $377 (Rs 30,000). According to IDC, the 5G smartphone market will surpass 50% by 2023.

Gopal Vittal, the CEO of Bharti Airtel, recently recommended people to search for 5G functionality when purchasing new cellphones.
